About Lead City University

Lead City University, located in Ibadan, is a distinguished private educational institution. The university’s journey began in 2002, when it submitted its application to the National Universities Commission (NUC). In the subsequent year, the Standing Committee on Private Universities (SCOPU) embarked on a thorough verification process, conducting assessment visits in August and September of 2003. Following these visits, SCOPU confirmed that Lead City University’s proprietor possessed the necessary capacity and resources to establish a private university.

As a result of this assessment, Lead City University received “approval for immediate takeoff” from the NUC Board in December 2003. This initial approval paved the way for subsequent ratification by the Federal Executive Council, which was ultimately carried out on February 16, 2005.

While originally named City University, Ibadan, the institution faced instances of mistaken identity, leading to potential corporate identity challenges. To counteract this issue, an extraordinary meeting of the university’s board of trustees and council took place on March 7, 2005. During this meeting, a resolution was reached to change the name to Lead City University, Ibadan. This change was subsequently communicated to relevant entities such as the Federal Ministry of Education, the National Universities Commission, and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). It’s important to note that all previous documents related to City University, Ibadan, remained valid.
