Therefore, “Basic Science” as a subject in secondary school can refer to a course that provides a foundation in the scientific principles that underlie a wide range of disciplines, including physics, chemistry, biology, and natural science. Basic science typically focuses on the fundamental concepts and theories that explain how the natural world works and the methods and techniques used to study and understand these phenomena.

Basic science, which is a branch of science, focuses on fundamental concepts and theories. It is called “pure” or “fundamental” science, as it is concerned with understanding the underlying principles of the natural world. It includes fields such as physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics. It involves studying the fundamental laws, concepts, and theories that describe the natural world.

Definition of Basic Science for JSS1

In the context of JSS1, Basic Science refers to the science education curriculum for students in their first year of junior secondary school. Basic Science is a subject offered in Nigerian junior secondary schools from JSS 1 to JSS 3. Graduates of Integrated Science, Biology, Chemistry, or other related fields with a fundamental knowledge of science can be employed to work as Basic Science teachers.

Basic Science, also called Integrated Science, is a general subject offered by junior secondary school students. Students are taught some key things in science before they advance to the senior secondary school level, where they’ll take subjects like Biology, Chemistry, Physics etc.

1. They are knowledgeable about the subject matter that they teach

Basic Science teachers are experts in their field. They have the requisite capacity to teach or transfer the knowledge of science to their students with ease. Due to their strong educational background in science, they could handle every topic in the basic science scheme of work and make effective lesson plans and notes that could meet the objectives of the lessons. Basic Science teachers are knowledgeable about various branches of science and are able to impart their knowledge to their students and take them through practicals. In order to be an effective basic science teacher, you’ll need to have at least a bachelor’s degree in education in Integrated Science or a related field. You must undergo teaching practice exercises and other pedagogical training.
