In this article, we’ll be looking at IGCSE Certification For Teachers In Nigeria.
According to The PUNCH, a few months ago, an educator, Peter Dugbo, advised teachers on the importance of certification in the teaching profession. He revealed that he could barely pay his bills when he started teaching in a private school sometime in 1996, adding that it wasn’t until he got certified in the Cambridge IGCSE that he started enjoying greener pastures.
Dugbo stated that he received his BA (Ed) in English in 1995 and began teaching in a private school in Lagos in 1996, shortly after completing his national youth service.
He said he could barely pay his bills, which led him to change schools. Even with his Master’s degree in 2010, his take-home pay was very poor until he got certified in the Cambridge IGCSE.
Dugbo said his story of hardship and penury was the same until he met a colleague teacher who advised him to get certified in the Cambridge IGCSE in his subject, which was English. He did, and his story changed for good. And since then, wherever he applied, he was employed.
Why are we saying this? Teachers with an IGCSE certificate have a better chance of getting a better job in the field of education. Having the certification can make a teacher more competitive on the job market and increase their chances of getting hired by an IGCSE school.
The International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) is a globally recognized qualification offered by Cambridge Assessment International Education. In Nigeria, teachers who wish to teach the IGCSE curriculum must get certification from Cambridge Assessment International Education. This can be done by completing the Cambridge International Teaching and Learning Professional Development Programme and passing the Cambridge International Teaching and Learning Professional Development Assessment.
In Nigeria, the British Council offers training and certification for teachers to teach the IGCSE curriculum. The training is usually held in major cities in Nigeria and is open to both current and prospective teachers. The certification is awarded by the University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE), which is responsible for the administration of the IGCSE exam.
How Can I Become a IGCSE Teacher in Nigeria?
To become certified to teach IGCSE in a country like Nigeria, teachers must first complete the necessary training provided by the British Council. This training typically covers the IGCSE curriculum, teaching methodologies, and assessment techniques. After completing the training, teachers must pass an assessment, which is usually in the form of a written exam or practical teaching demonstration.
Once a teacher has successfully completed the training and assessment, they will be awarded an IGCSE teaching certificate. This certificate is widely recognized and is valid for a period of five years. After this period, teachers will need to renew their certificates by completing additional training and assessments.
It’s important to note that the IGCSE is not a Nigerian education system; it’s a British system that’s been adopted in many countries. And in Nigeria, it’s commonly offered by privately owned schools, and it’s not a requirement to be a Nigerian to teach the IGCSE curriculum in Nigeria.
The International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) is an internationally recognized qualification for teachers who teach subjects within the IGCSE curriculum. Teachers who hold this qualification have demonstrated a high level of subject knowledge and expertise in teaching the IGCSE curriculum. The qualification is designed for teachers who are currently teaching or plan to teach IGCSE subjects.
To be eligible for the IGCSE Teachers’ Qualification, teachers must be well educated and have at least two years of teaching experience in the subject they wish to be certified in. The qualification is awarded through a combination of written exams and coursework, and it can be used to demonstrate a teacher’s expertise to potential employers.
Additionally, it should be noted that it is not a mandatory requirement for teachers in Nigeria to have IGCSE certification in order to teach in private schools that offer the IGCSE curriculum. However, having the certification can make a teacher more competitive on the job market and increase their chances of getting hired by an IGCSE school. It can also demonstrate to potential employers that the teacher has a good understanding of the IGCSE curriculum and teaching methodologies.
Furthermore, having an IGCSE teaching certification can also benefit teachers in terms of career advancement. It shows that they have the necessary knowledge and skills to teach at an international level and can open up opportunities to teach at international schools or work as a teacher trainer.
