University of Ibadan Notable Alumni

In this article, we’ll be looking at some of the University of Ibadan’s notable alumni. These are people who are famous and excelling in their respective careers. They were once students at the University of Ibadan. They attended lectures, wrote exams, went through all the academic stress and hurdles just like any other undergraduate, and after graduation they worked hard to make a name for themselves.

Below are some of the notable alumni of University of Ibadan penned down by Students Mirror.

1. Dapo Lam Adesina

Dapo Lam Adesina is an alumnus of the University of Ibadan. Born on October 25th, 1978, the prominent personality is a Nigerian politician. He served as a member of Nigeria’s 8th House of Representatives. He’s currently an active member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of Nigeria. Dapo Lam Adesina represented Ibadan North East/South East Federal Constituency of Oyo State between 2015 to 2019. He served as Special Assistant to the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Dapo Lam Adesina did his early education at Ayodele Nursery and Primary School in Ibadan. He also attended the Government College Ibadan (GCI), before enrolling to study Electrical and Electronics Engineering at the Polytechnic, Ibadan, before obtaining a bachelor’s degree from the University of Ibadan, where he graduated from the Agricultural and Environmental Engineering programme.

The renowned politician also served in the oil and gas industry, where he was a principal partner in Skipet Oil Nigeria Limited. The public figure was the co-founder and also served as president of Future Initiative Nigeria. Among other places he worked, Dapo served as a patron of the Federal Road Safety Commission and was also a member of the advisory board of Youth Advocates Network.

2. Robert Ajayi Boroffice

Robert Ajayi Boroffice is another notable alumni of the University of Ibadan. The Professor was born on April 23, 1949. The public servant was elected Senator for Ondo North, in Ondo State, Nigeria, in April 2011. He’s a known member of the All Progressives Congress party.

The politician and Academcian became a lecturer at the University of Ibadan in 1975 and was a Professor of Zoology at the Lagos State University sometime in 1986.Robert Ajayi Boroffice also once occupied administrative offices at Lagos State University. He served as the head of Department, Dean of Faculty, as well as the Chairman of the Committee of Deans. The renown figure was made the Coordinating Director for Science in the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure in the year 1992.

He also worked on information and communication technology, biotechnology, among others, which led to the establishment of the National Information Technology Development Agency and the National Biotechnology Development Agency, amongst others

3. Olusola “Sola” Adejoke David-Borha

Olusola “Sola” Adejoke David-Borha, has been the CEO of Africa Regions at Standard Bank Group since the year 2017. The female accountant once served as the CEO of Stanbic IBTC Holdings until early 2017. She also worked as a deputy CEO and executive director of corporate and investment banking. Olusola is the vice-chairman of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group and has also been a non-executive director of Coca-Cola HBC AG since the year 2015. The popular personality is one of the members of the governing council of the Redeemer’s University.

4. John Olukayode Fayemi


Fayemi is another notable alumna of the University of Ibadan. Born on February 9, 1965, Fayemi is a renowned politician, serving as the governor of Ekiti State, as well as the chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum. He served as President of the Forum of the Regions of Africa (FORMA) for many years. Fayemi was made Minister of Solid Minerals Development in President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet from November 2015 to May 2018, before he resigned to compete for the seat of Governor of Ekiti State.

The politician once lectured at the Nigeria-Police Training College in Sokoto. He also worked as a research officer at Development and Management Consultants in Ikeja between the years 1987 and 1989. He later went overseas to pursue his doctoral studies, where he served as a Research Officer at the African Research and Information Bureau in London.

Fayemi On September 9, 2022, Fayemi emerged as the first elected President of the Forum of Regions of Africa, a forum which is organised by the United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLG Africa) in collaboration with the Association of Moroccan Regions (ARM), among others.

5. William Kumuyi

William Folorunso Kumuyi is one of the outstanding notable alumni of the University of Ibadan. Kumuyi, who is a popular clergyman, is the founder and General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry. The headquarters of the mega church is situated at Gbagada, Lagos, South West Nigeria.

The religious leader is also a best-selling author who has written over a hundred books and daily devotionals. The pastor hailed from Erin-Ijesa, Ogun State, Protectorate of Nigeria. He’s married to Abiodun Kumuyi and has two sons. One of his sons is married to Love Odih, the founder of Unsioled.

The scholar began teaching mathematics in the year 1962 at Mayflower School, where he studied. He later lectured at the University of Lagos before going into full-time ministry.

6. Eyitayo Lambo

Eyitayo Lambo, who served as the Nigerian Federal Minister of Health in the year 2003, attended the University of Ibadan. Born on 28 December 1944 in Isanlu, and he also attended the University of Ibadan, University of Rochester, and University of Lancaster in the UK. Lambo earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in economics and a doctorate degree in operational research and applied to health systems. He also taught at the undergraduate and graduate levels at Ilorin and Ibadan Universities, among others.

7. Ifeanyichukwu Arthur Okowa

Ifeanyichukwu Arthur Okowa is a renowned Nigerian politician and doctor. He served as the governor of Delta State for two terms. Okowa graduated from the University of Ibadan . He was elected Senator for Delta North. After four years in the Senate, he was elected governor in 2015. Akinwande Oluwole Babatunde Soyinka

8. Wole Soyinka

Soyinka is one of Nigeria’s finest playwright, novelist, and poet. He’s a recipient of the 1986 Nobel Prize in Literature. He hails from Abeokuta. He attended Government College in Ibadan in 1954 and subsequently University College Ibadan before attending the University of Leeds in England.

9. Ifedayo Olarinde

Born 6 May 1976, Ifedayo Olarinde, widely known as Daddy Freeze, is a renowned Nigerian-Romanian radio personality and host. He attended the International School in Port Indan for his primary and secondary education before bagging a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Ibadan.

10. Mary Lazarus

Mary Lazarus is another notable alumna of the University of Ibadan. Born on May 5, 1989, the female celebrity is a Nigerian actress and movie producer. She has won many awards, which include winning the City People Movie Award for Most Promising Actress of the Year at the City People Entertainment Awards in the year 2018.
