The American University of Nigeria is a private, for-profit institution. Established in 2004, the university has churned out over a thousand graduates. The Nigerian private university is located in Yola, Adamawa State. It was established by the former vice president, Atiku Abukar.

The American University of Nigeria, just like Bowen University were among the Top 20 best private universities in Nigeria according to the National Uninvesties Commission in 2021. The varsity offers a wide range of undergraduate and post graduate programmes and boasts of qualified academic and non-academic staff.

Bobai Balat, who is widely known as Bally B, is an American University of Nigeria notable alumnus. Bally B is a professional disc jockey, record producer, and voiceover artist. He came to limelight when contested as a housemate in the Big Brother Naija 2017 reality game show.

Born on October 4, 1988, Bally has worked as a school teacher in Lagos, Nigeria. He is also a statistician.

The artiste was born in Kaduna State, Zangon-Kataf, Nigeria into the family of Paulina Yanakok and Isaiah Balat. He spent most of his adolescent years in Kaduna before moving to Nigeria’s capital, Abuja.

Bobai Balat did his primary education in Kaduna before moving to Abuja to complete his secondary education at Loyola Jesuit College. The Nigerian, in 2006, started his university education at Purdue University in 2006, studying there for two years before transferring to the American University of Nigeria for personal reasons.

Balat was once affiliated with a major record label in the Nigerian music industry known as Aristokrat Records.

Honourable Justice Fadima Murtala Aminu is another American University of Nigeria notable alumna. Born on April 30th, 1968, in Zaria, Kaduna state, the notable Nigerian attended Therbow Nursery & Primary School, Zaria; L.E.A. Kakuri, Kaduna; Central Primary School, J-Yola; and others for her primary and secondary education.

In 1986, she proceeded to study law at the University of Maiduguri. In 2009, the prominent personality bagged a Basic ICT Certificate from the American University of Nigeria, Yola, before she proceeded to the University of Lagos to obtain a Master’s degree in Law.

In September 1991, she was the Pupil Counsel (N.Y.S.C) for Murtala Aminu & Co. Solicitors, Advocates and Notaries Public, Adamawa State. In 2015, she became a Judge of the Federal High Court of Nigeria.

Itohanosa “Crucificxo” Oronsaye

Itohanosa Oronsaye, popularly known as Crucificxo, is also one of the American University of Nigeria notable alumnus. The artiste, around 2016, released his new single titled “Coke Bottle,” which was produced by Unk Merlin, mixed and mastered by Janis Krauklis, and was a song off his recently completed EP titled Monochrome.

The artiste has performed at the Summer Beach Party 2016 in West Sussex, England as well as the Crack Ya Ribs Comedy Show 2016 in London. In 2016, in Nigeria, the artiste also performed at the Salute the Flag event at Ikeja City Mall and joined the award-winning artiste Jaywon aka Oba Orin as a supporting act at Lead City University in Ibadan.

The musician started writing poetry, and with the support of his siblings as well as close friends, he felt the courage to move further.

Emily Nkanga, a Nigerian-British photographer and filmmaker, is an American University of Nigeria notable alumna. She is widely known for her work covering singers like Koker, Olamide, Aramide, Boj, Olamide, Jidenna, among others.

She was born on May 21, 1995 in Lagos State, Nigeria, into the family of Air Commodore Idongesit (Retired) and Mrs. Mosunsola Nkanga.

The public figure attended the Air Force Girls Comprehensive School, Jos, Plateau State, after which she studied Communications and Multimedia Design (TV/Film) at The American University of Nigeria, Yola, Adamawa State, Northern Nigeria. She also got a masters degree in filmmaking from Goldsmiths’ University of London.

Nkanga has been recognized by several Nigerian mainstream newspapers, including The Nation, Vanguard, and The Guardian, amongst others.

She wrote her WAEC and JAMB in July 2012 before getting admitted into the university the same year.

She was a recipient of Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Foundation scholarships while she was in secondary school.
