How Much Does Oyo State Pay Corpers

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program in Nigeria has been a pivotal avenue for fostering national unity and providing young graduates with valuable experiences. Among the various states participating in this initiative, Oyo State has emerged as one of the most sought-after and desired destinations for corps members. Its reputation stems not only from its vibrant cultural heritage and picturesque landscapes but also from its status as one of the highest paying states for corps members. In this article, we explore the monthly stipend paid to corps members in Oyo State and a list of some places of Primary Assignment (PPA) within the state.

How Much Does Oyo State Pay Corpers

Oyo State, in its commitment to supporting corps members during their service year, offers a monthly stipend of N15,000. The stipend plays a vital role in ensuring that corps members can meet their basic living expenses and fully immerse themselves in their assigned communities.

Corpers who serve in Oyo State and work in government institutions are paid the sum of N15,000. However, this doesn’t apply to those who serve in privately owned institutions, so not all corps members receive that amount. Corps members who receive such payments are typically posted to government schools, local government offices, or other institutions overseen by the government. On the other hand, if you’re posted to a private sector organization, you may receive N4,000 to N10,000 or even more, depending on the size of the private organization.

The N15,000 is a state government allowance. Corpers posted to places like the Ministry of Trade, Commerce, and Cooperation, among others, often get paid after the first two to three months. So, if you’re fortunate enough to serve in the public sector, that’s great. Kudos to the state government.

Meanwhile, don’t forget that aside from the State allowance, the Federal Government pays N33,000 plus a bicycle allowance, among other things, to all Corps members. So, even if you are not lucky enough to get posted to Oyo State or couldn’t serve in government institutions to enjoy their stipends, there is a federal allowance for you. And if you’re industrious, regardless of the state you serve in, you won’t feel financially constrained.

Why Does The State Government Pay Corps Members?

We have received quite a number of questions, such as: Why does the State government pay Corps members despite receiving an allowance from the federal government? I mean, corps members are deployed to serve the nation, right? Well, the payment will help the corps member. Yes, it does matter. The N33,000 that the FG pays to Corps members is not enough to sustain them. Corps members are usually stranded in the middle of the month without food or money. Therefore, paying them a state allowance will be a kind of support, and it will go a long way to encouraging them.
